rarg.1

Written and recorded throughout 2002, rarg.1 contains the early compositions that have defined the rarg sound. In particular are the ambient swell of 'Guru Drive', and the complex polyrhythms of 'Glass Statue', composed using objects found in rarg's kitchen.

Also featured are a handful of guitar-only compositions: 'Carlos Guitarlos' and its sequel 'The Return of Carlos Guitarlos', were inspired by the works of Steve Reich, and 'Architeuthis', a dark ambient piece created using both the notes and the noises of the electric guitar; and the keyboard/treated percussion of the two pieces entitled '1.30'.

All tracks were recorded in The Orange Room, except for 'The Horrible Murder of Commander Gomez', which features Molly Bolton on Cello and was recorded by rarg and Bob Walters in Carad Studios, Rhayader, Mid-Wales, for a production of Vega's'Fuente Ovejuna'

rarg.1 is the perfect place to enter the unusual, eccentric, disturbing and erratic mind of rarg and is the debut release from BLUEBALL RECORDS.

rarg.2

rarg.2 was created between 2002 and 2003, and features a mix of both studio work and pieces commissioned for the theatre.

The theatre works include 'Four Sharp Knocks' and 'Six Months Later in the Yemen', written for a production of Camus' 'The Outsider' by the New Writers Company; 'Siren Song', 'Bangin', and 'Poison Dripper' written for Tin-Pot Productions staging of 'Macbeth'; and the orchestrated 'GhostVision' and 'The Magistrate' recorded using members of the Mid Powys Youth Theatre for their production of 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' written by Brecht.

The solo works include the massive analogue synthesizer composition, 'The Sorceror's Cock', the trance/ambient drone of 'I Hate Clubbing', and 'A Drop in the Ocean' - a jagged, rhythmic piece written using samples of Benjamin Britten's 'Four Sea Interludes' from the opera 'Peter Grimes', and also featuring rarg's own piss and toilet flushing.

rarg.2 also features a collaboration with rarg's brother, Quist, on 'In Arcadia, I'

All tracks were recorded and manipulated in and around The Orange Room.

rarg.2 is a darker, more substantial work, featuring a much greater layering of textures. It also shows the development of rarg as a composer, and as an alchemist of sound.

It is currently being remastered and will be released here in 2006.

rarg.3

rarg.3 is currently being finished. The darkest collection so far, compiled during a period of depression and subesquent recovery, it features 'Never Be Flash With Fireworks', recorded out of rarg's window on bonfire night (November 5 2003), and sequenced into a dark industrial, mechanical piece; and 'The Highway Code', recorded late one June night, using the noise of passing traffic.

rarg.3 includes rarg's most accessible "pop" recordings to date. 'Ear Drops' (see sample track above) and 'If You Use That Thing Again, I'm Gonna Throw It in the River', a piece inspired by a comment by Meiliung referring to an orange rod that makes a silly noise, picked up by rarg in Beddgelert, North Wales.

With 'Papercut', rarg continues his fascination with manipulating the mundane sounds we hear in everyday life. By crackling, crumpling and tearing paper and plastic, rarg has made a collage of rhythmic sounds, making use of the closest instruments to hand: himself and rubbish.

As with the previous rarg albums, it was recorded, moulded and fucked with in The Orange Room.

rarg.3 will be released sometime in late 2006/2007
